Description

Enter the world of renowned Catalan artist Joan Miró at The Fundació Joan Miró in Barcelona.

With a unique vision, and his use of bold colors and broad organic forms, Miró is one of the most influential figures in the art world. He's known for his works in painting, sculpture, mural, and ceramics. Ernest Hemingway compared Miró's painting The Farm (which he acquired), to James Joyce's Ulysses. Though he himself was not a writer, Miró did try to explain how he worked with color to communicate his ideas, "I try to apply colors like words that shape poems, like notes that shape music."

In 1968, Joan Miró himself had the idea to create the foundation. His goal was to establish an internationally recognized center in Barcelona for younger artists to engage with contemporary art. True to his original vision, the Foundation has a space ("Espai 13"), dedicated to the work of young experimental artists - as well as a large collection of works by Miró himself. Today, the Fundacio Miró Museum displays almost 15,000 pieces of art. You can find more than 8.000 drawings, 217 paintings, 178 sculptures as well as ceramics, textiles and graphic works.

During the year the Fundació organizes temporary exhibitions of 20th and 21st-century artists. Besides the exhibitions, the foundation also presents academic activities and projects in collaboration with other institutions and organizations.

”Why are you going to see the work of a painter who draws no better than a child 👶?”
asked my hostal receptionist in Barcelona.
Well, having gone to the Fundacio de Joan Miro, the answer is simple:
Miro draws, paints and sculpt with the HEART and PASSION of a little child. He celebrated every vision as if he were seeing for the very first time.
His was a World without clutter; a World of minimal beauty.
To me he was proclaiming, “I am not competing with the Artwork of God, I am appreciating it as a child, in the simplest of palette and line.”
The very building echoes this clarity, purity and luminosity.
SIMPLY BRILLIANT!

Lovely space and amazing collection.
I felt so a home. A relaxed tea in the cafe and I contemplated spending the day there. I walked outside and there was a hop on bus. What service.

Loved the museum. Not happy about Tiqets because we bought tickets for a day which was free entry. We purchased tickets for nothing. Tiqets should not have sold us the tickets.

Worth a visit. Iconic work in a wonderful setting. Audio info very good. Amazing views from the building.
Food choices limited. Decent menu but only 1 option available from each section and we were there at lunchtime.
Staff all very helpful. Would definitely recommend visiting.
