Van Gogh Museum

The Van Gogh Museum displays over 200 of his works, including landscapes, still lifes and drawings and letters. By displaying them alongside works from Van Gogh's contemporaries, viewers get real insights into his life and work.

The museum itself is made out of two buildings. The main building, designed by Gerrit Rietveld, Joan van Dillen and J. van Tricht, opened in 1973. The second building, designed by Japanese architect Kisho Kurokawa was added in 1999. Located on Amsterdam's Museumplein (along with the Stedelijk and Rijksmuseum), the Van Gogh is one of the most visited museums in the Netherlands.

Van Gogh Museum: Skip The Line
I really enjoyed my visit. This is a beautiful museum that gives the visitor a better understanding of the life and work of Van Gogh. We booked our tickets for Friday night when the museum is open late. There was a great party atmosphere down stairs with other visitors dancing to music or listening to poetry. What a great idea! I would highly recommend adding the Van Gogh Museum to anyone's Amsterdam itinerary and try and go on Friday night!

Very nicely laid out, chilled but inviting. Busy at times so go early, preferably before 1pm.

Audio guide was excellent and helped you focus on key paintings. The museum is so well-organised. You need at least 1.45 to see it.

Van Gogh Museum & Canal Cruise
The ticket allowed us to skip the (very) long line at the museum and just walk in. Same went for the cruise. Both experiences were very interesting and I highly recommend them!
